Fly Fishing Weekend: Learn to Fly Fish!


Enjoy the solitude of the summer mountains and learn to fly fish with experienced guide Bill Carman.  In this weekend workshop, participants will experience the wonderful hospitality of Pine Mountain Settlement School while learning everything they need to know to fly fish.  This includes choosing equipment, fly selection, reading a stream, casting, hooking and landing a fish.  Participants receive two nights lodging, Friday supper, Saturday breakfast, lunch, supper, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.  Streamside classroom includes on-stream instruction, fly box, 6 flies, loaner rods and reels.

Cost is $325

Lodging is provided on Friday and Saturday nights. Visitors may stay in dormitory or cottage-style housing. Bathrooms are shared. Single rooms available upon request.

Meals are provided from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Homegrown vegetables are served as much as possible. Vegetarians options are available with advance notice.

About Bill Carman

Bill Carman is a Kentucky native, and has been fly fishing for over fifty years. He has fished rivers and streams from Alaska to Hawaii to Florida, and spent much of his time in graduate school in Utah fishing the streams in the Rocky Mountains. His favorite fishing is right here in the hills of Kentucky. Bill has facilitated fly fishing seminars for Kentucky State Parks, Lexington Parks and Recreation, and the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery. He is a successful outdoor writer with his book "Feather Sticks" .
