K-6th grade day camp participants

"Three Billy Goats" Come to Pine Mountain

Local elementary school children participated in a day camp at Pine Mountain Settlement School June 16-20th.

Seventeen children from kindergarten through 3rd grade made take-home crafts and hand puppets, practiced a puppet show and hiked on the School's trails during their week-long day camp.

Youth in grades 4 through 6 enjoyed folk dancing, hiking, learning about stream ecology, and discovering the benefits of having bats in your community. Bats are important in controlling the insect population, eating as many as 600 mosquitoes in an hour. Funds received from a PRIDE grant provided each camper with the book Bats Love the Night and materials for participants to make a bat house to take home.

The younger students performed the Three Billy Goats as a puppet show and the older children folk danced for family and friends on the final day of camp.
