PMSS Mourns Loss of Local Musician
Pine Mountain Settlement School joins with countless others to mourn the death of musician and Appalachian scholar, Arthur Johnson. Mr. Johnson died in a house fire in Cumberland, Kentucky on April 21. He was 81.For more than 50 years, Arthur played music and told stories for visiting groups at the School. He was a keeper of the best of the Appalachian culture and freely shared this knowledge.
He was one of the kindest people around, and seemed to bring out the best in others. We feel privileged to have known him.
