Request for Proposals for Draper Building

Request for Proposals for Draper Building roof and guttering project at Pine Mountain Settlement School

Pine Mountain Settlement School is seeking proposals on a project to replace the roof and gutters on Draper Building. The building is a contributing structure to the School's National Historic Landmark status. As such, the new roof must be of like materials to the original. All work must meet Secretary of the Interior Standards for Renovation of Historic Buildings.

The original roof, which dates from around 1940, is covered with 3V metal roofing, the type that was commonly used on barns. The original metal roof still covers the long rectangular section to the rear of the structure. Additions in the 1940s and the1970s are covered with asphalt shingles.

This project would require that all roof surfaces be covered with metal roofing. The metal roofing should be 5V Galvalume or 5V with a baked on finish and should be at least 26 gauge. All new roofing will be carefully flashed at walls and chimneys.

The present gutters should be replaced with half-round gutters, which were originally on the structure.

Close-up photographs of the roof can be sent out via e-mail.

Closing date for the receipt of proposals is July 1, 2009. Proposals may be mailed to Pine Mountain Settlement School, 36 Highway 510, Bledsoe, KY 40810.
