PMSS Mourns the Loss of Former Boarding School Student


Hazel Woodward Carter, former boarding school student; long-time advisory council member; and one of the most dedicated and active members of the Pine Mountain Settlement School Alumni Association has died following a brief illness. She will be missed.

Obituary:
Mrs. Hazel Woodward Carter was born August 27, 1918 and passed away at her home with her family by her side on Tuesday February 16, 2010. She was a very faithful and active longtime member of the Cedar Fork Baptist Church. She retired from the Claiborne County Health Department as a family home health care nurse. Hazel loved the Lord and her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carter;parents: John E. and Minerva Herrell Woodward; sisters: Bessie Rice, Virginia Coldiron, and Maggie Mae Gable; and a brother: Edward Woodward

She is survived by; Sons: Ralph D. Carter of New Tazewell, TN; Randall D Carter and wife Sue of Tazewell, TN; Granddaughters: Melanie Carter Gilbert of Tazewell, TN; Shanna Lingerfelt and husband Keith of Louisville,TN; Shelley Martin and husband Travis of Tazewell, TN; Great Granddaughters: Rene Martin, Alexus Lingerfelt, Wednesday Espinoza,
Chesney Lingerfelt, Keelyn Gilbert, and baby Lingerfelt due in June. Also survived by Brothers: Wade Woodward and wife Peggy of Tazewell, TN; Thomas Woodward of Memphis, TN; Sister: Reva Smith of Cocoa, FL; Special Nephews: Dan Rice and wife Barbara of Punta Gorda, FL; Lynn Rice and wife Clara of Carlton, MI; many other nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday February 17, 2010 from 5 to 8 PM at Claiborne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 10 AM, Thursday February 18, 2010 in the Claiborne Funeral Home chapel with the Pastor Mark Campbell, Reverend George Cole, and Reverend Eddie Overholt officiating. Music will be provided by the Cedar Fork Baptist Church Singers. Burial will follow in the Cave Springs Cemetery.
