Reading Camp students
Reading CampPlease refer to our Schedule of Events for specific dates.
Reading Camp is a weeklong camp for third and fourth grade students who are at least a year behind classmates in reading. Students receive individual instruction in reading basics from certified teachers and enjoy recreational activities with Pine Mountain staff and a host of volunteers. The goals of the camp are to help students improve reading skills and to bolster the confidence of these students. Teachers, volunteers and counselors support students so that they will have a positive experience and know that others are interested in them.
Partners in Reading Camp include the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington and Christ Church in Harlan. Partial funding comes from the Berea College Appalachian Fund.
