Dovetail Log Cabin Building Workshop with Mr. Chickadee

November 01 - 05, 2017

Join the famous Mr. Chickadee for a 4-day workshop covering the construction of a traditional Appalachian dovetail log cabin. A master traditional craftsman with nearly 70,000 Youtube followers, Mr. Chickadee (Josh Stevens) will lead this hands-on workshop on the beautiful campus of Pine Mountain Settlement School, a National Historic Landmark and hidden gem in the mountains of Harlan County, Kentucky. Participants will walk away with an understanding of the traditional architectural construction of Appalachian log cabins by learning how to construct proper foundations, walls, flooring, and windows. Participants will also come away with an understanding of how to put in roofing and attics. The goal is to learn how to build the best Appalachian log cabin home using the same traditional hand tools that original cabins were built hundreds of years ago. All of this will be done by constructing a replica scale model of the historic Creech Cabin. Class size is limited. The workshop is only $400 per person, which includes lodging, all farm-fresh meals, and instruction. Call 606-558-3571 to reserve a spot or register online.

Mr. Chickadee's Bio
Josh Stevens, Aka Mr. Chickadee is a man on a mission and following a dream. After his stint in the US Marines, Josh has embarked on an exciting and amazing journey back in time. Leaving the hustle and bustle and general craziness of the stressful modern life behind, he and his wife set out into the Kentucky mountains, to carve a homestead from the trees and stones there.

Over the past three years Josh has had to master many traditional crafts, such as masonry, blacksmithing, timber framing, and traditional furniture making. All this was accomplished with only basic traditional hand tools.

Mr. Chickadee's documented journey has touched and inspired many thousands from across the world, and his heart felt message and mission remains to "teach everyone they can build a stronger, longer lasting and more beautiful home than any they could buy with just a bit of sweat and a few old hand tools from the local flea market!"
